How does it work?

The active ingredients, DHA (dihydroxyacetone) and Erythrulose (occuring naturally in red raspberries), react with the amino acids in dead skin cells to increase the brown pigment, melanoidin, developing a beautiful tan. This non-toxic reaction produes a temporary browning effect. This is not a stain or dye, but rather a chemical reaction that produces the color change.

Erythrulose and dihydroxyacetone (DHA) are very similar in composition, and both react much the same way on the skin surface. Erythrulose produces a slower developing tan, taking 24 to 48 hours to fully develop. The final tone of erythrulose is slightly redder than the DHA based tan. We feel that when combined with DHA, the resulting sunless tan lasts longer, fades more smoothly, and produces a  more cosmetically pleasing color tone.

One session takes about 30-35 minutes for the solution to be applied over the entire body and dries almost instantly. Two session are recommended to build a base tan depending on your skin type and color.

How long does it last?

Because the skin continually exfoliates itself, losing thousands of dead surface skin cells each day, the tan hue is temporary. The tan appearance typically lasts up to 10 days, depending on the quality of the application, your activities, the condition of your skin, and how you take care of your skin. The airbrushed tan will gradually fade just like a UV tan, but with follow up appointments you can maintain your tan indefinitely.

PREPARING FOR YOUR AIRBRUSH TAN

What to do before the appointment:

*The day before or day of your session, shower and shave as normal. (Wax at least 2 days prior.) During your shower use an exfoliating wash or scrub to remove dry, flaky skin that may cause uneven tanning.

*Do not wear makeup, powder, deodorant or lotion immediately prior to application. All of these will create a barrier on the surface of your skin.

What to wear for your appointment:

*You may tan in the garment of your choice; bathing suits and underwear work well. Fully nude is ok and we also can provide disposable thongs (underwear). The DHA solution should wash out of most clothing, just wash as soon as possible.

*Wear dark, loose fitting clothing to the appointment. We recommend shorts and a T-shirt. (Jeans and tight clothes can rub off the DHA bronzer.)

*Wear your hair back from your face and neck in a pony-tail or clip. If you have bangs, please use a headband to keep hair off your face. (We’ll use a hair cover during application.)*

MAINTAINING YOUR UV-FREE TAN

*After your spray tanning session, You must avoid water entirely for at least 4-8 hours or you will stop the tanning action of the DHA!

*Avoid activities that may cause you to sweat excessively for at least 8 hrs. Remember, you have just been “painted” with a water soluble solution and perspiration can cause streaking.

*Ideally, wait at least eight hours (or more) before showering or bathing with any kind of soap or shower gel. We recommend 24 hrs if possible. If you absolutely must shower before the 8 hour period, wait at least 4 hours, then use plain water only to allow your tan to continue to develop (no scrubbing and gentle patting with the towel)

*Once you’ve showered the first time, you will see slight discoloration in the water, the ‘‘instant color’’ cosmetic bronzer will wash off just as it is designed to do.

*Exposure to chorine from a pool or hot tub and/or long, hot showers and bathes can cause your tan to fade faster. Avoid if possible…

**Apply moisturizer everyday after your tanning session

and especially after showers.**
